Trestle Glen is a relatively large neighborhood in the city of Oakland, Alameda County, California. It roughly covers the area between the 580 Freeway to the Piedmont border and from Lakeshore Avenue to a line along Greenwood Avenue, Norwood Avenue and upper Trestle Glen Road (the border between ZIP Codes 94610 and 94602). Within the Trestle Glen Neighborhood, is the Crocker Highlands District.
Trestle Glen has been a popular choice for homeowners ever since the original subdivisions (Lakeshore Highlands and East Piedmont Heights) were formed in 1917. A great number of today's existing homes were built in the early to mid 1920's. Fortunately none of these homes were destroyed in the Oakland Fire Storm of October, 1991.
Most of Trestle Glen is served by the Crocker Highlands Elementary School. Be aware that there are some homes that fall into surrounding elementary school boundaries and that classroom sizes are limited.
The neighborhood features many architectural gems including those by Julia Morgan, John Hudson Thomas and Bernard Maybeck. Home styles are varied and it seems that no two are exactly alike. A vast majority of them have been restored and remodelled over the past two decades.
Several parks are located throughout the neighborhood and Lake Merritt, a jogger’s paradise, is nearby.
Superb shopping and dining are within walking distance from many locations in Trestle Glen or just a short drive away. The closest shops are on Lakeshore Avenue in the 3200-3300 blocks below Mandana Avenue and right off the 580 Freeway. Just on the other side of the Grand Lake Hill, is Grand Avenue offering still more nearby shopping and dining. The historic Grand Lake Theater is there as well. Piedmont Avenue, about 1/2 mile north, offers even more quality restaurants, shops and the Piedmont Theater.
Operating year round on Saturday mornings from 10AM-2PM is the Grand Lake Farmer’s Market located across from the Grand Lake Theater.
Access to San Francisco is easy via BART, AC Transit, car or informal car pool.
